Neame Cup Team 2011-2012 Season Update

For the second round of the Neame Cup Competition our team met the expert team of Selling Gardening Society on Monday, 16th Jan at the Selling Village Hall.

The match was lost by 5 points, i.e. Barham 50 and Selling 55. The Selling team also won their first round match against Lower Hardres/Nackington.

The match was fought in good spirits and with many laughs and the evening finished with a cup of tea and some nice refreshments.

Third round will take place on 20th February 8.00 at the Kingston Barn against the Lower Hardres and Nackington Garden Society and members are invited to support our team

Autumn show - 10th September 2011 (View the gallery)

Entries were down compared with last year due to the heavy rain and gales the week before the show. It was however a very nice afternoon with many visitors enjoying the display and a cup of tea and a piece of cake. Take a look at some of the photos in the gallery.

Summer show - 2nd July 2011 (View the gallery)

The weather was fantastic and it was another very successful Summer Show with 240 exhibits.

We were particularly delighted with the new backdrop for the flower arrangements. This was neater and much easier to assemble than our previous corrugated cardboard. You can see this in some of the photos in the gallery.

Spring Plant Sale - 9th April 2011 (View the gallery)

The spring sale was an exciting affair thanks to a combination of beautiful weather, generous donations of plants and the added attraction of a spring flower show.  Queues of eager gardeners formed before 10.30 and with plants from 20p, there was nothing left after 20 minutes.....  There are a few photos in the gallery.

Neame cup final

The Barham quiz team were runners up in the final of the Neame Cup, beaten by Sheldwich Horticultural Society with 60 points versus the 46 achieved by Barham & District Horticultural Society. Our team gave an excellent performance. The final was a well-attended and friendly evening. A big thank you goes to all committee members for supplying delicious food.

Planting for bees

On the 24th February, Dr. Mick Lynn, the Chairman of the Ticehurst Gardening Society and a bee-keeper, gave a presentation on 'Bees in the Garden' describing how gardeners can help bee populations through the design and plantings in their gardens. For more details see the attached leaflet.
